Drink Drinking Limits
The alcohol limit for drivers in the UK is:
- 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath
- 80mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood
- 107mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine
Drink Driving Penalties
In order to achieve a conviction for Drink Driving, the court has to be satisfied that all procedures have been followed correctly.
- Banned from the road for at least 12 months
- Fined up to £5,000
- Possible prison sentence, of up to six months.
- If caught more than once in a 10-year period, you may receive a three-year ban.

Are there any special reasons for drink driving?
There are certain circumstances when the explanation for driving may not be sufficiently compelling as to provide a full defence. It is still possible to avoid a driving ban for drink driving if a person has a special reason. Cases include spiked drinks, and if the person has driven the motorcar for a very short distance only with a very good reason, and with limited possibility of danger to other road users.
